Abstract
Inaugurated in 1957, the Brasília Zoo (JZB) is one of the most emblematic public facilities in the federal capital, bringing together visitation areas and services dedicated to fauna, research, and environmental education. Currently, the JZB seeks to align itself with contemporary principles adopted in modern zoos, primarily focusing on biodiversity conservation and inclusion. As part of the “Environmental Requalification and Accessibility of the Brasília Zoo” project (FAPDF), and serving as a subsidy for the guidelines of the New Occupation Master Plan (1957–2057), this article presents an integrated diagnosis of spatial configuration and accessibility within the transition from the actual model to the contemporary Eco-Park concept. The methodology articulates Space Syntax through axial and segment analyses, alongside in situ surveys. The results reveal low intelligibility and internal disconnection, exacerbated by a flow hierarchy that prioritizes vehicular access to the detriment of walkability. In response to this condition, design guidelines for configurational restructuring are presented. It is concluded that the environmental requalification of the zoo requires a topological restructuring of the spatial network to overcome current spatial segregation, aiming to consolidate the park as an accessible territory of mediation between human enjoyment, the full habitability of fauna under human care, and biodiversity conservation.
